Today’s Menu: Biscuits and Gravy w/ Turkey Sausage Links

 

To start this morning I toasted a Thomas Light English Muffin that I topped with Smucker’s Sugar Free Blackberry Jam and I had a cup of Bigelow Decaf Green Tea. Nothing new here weather wise, another 2 more inches of snow fell. My neighbor across the street came over and shoveled it off then I spread salt on it to clear the driveway again! I have to have Mom out to Ross tomorrow morning for 2nd virus shot. Hopefully the weather won’t be bad. Not a lot more going on today. For Dinner tonight, Breakfast! I’m having Biscuits and Gravy w/ Turkey Sausage Links. I love Biscuits and Gravy!

 

It just felt like a Biscuit, Gravy, and Sausage type of day! I love Gravy, I take that after my Dad! He loved Gravy on anything. To make the Gravy I’m using a packet of my favorite Gravy, Pioneer Peppered Gravy Mix. So easy to prepare and absolutely delicious! To prepare it I get a small sauce pan and give it a light spray of Pam non Stick Cooking Spray w/ Olive Oil. I add a 1 1/2 cups of Cold Water to the pan and heat it on high to a rolling boil. As that is heating up I preheated the oven for the Pillsbury Biscuits and I mixed the Gravy. In a measuring cup I added a 1/2 cup of Cold Water and then added the Gravy Mix to the Water and stirred until it smooth. When the Water was boiling I added the Gravy Mix. Turned down the heat a notch or two and started stirring the Mix and Water. Continued stirring until it started to thicken. Removed it from the heat and continued to stir it for about 30 seconds. I put the lid on the sauce pan and set it aside until I was ready to use it.

Time to bake the Pillsbury Flaky Layers Buttermilk Biscuits! Took a small baking pan and sprayed a light coat of the Pam Cooking Spray on it. Added the Biscuits and popped the pan in the oven. I’m baking them 400ᵒ F for 10 minutes. And as all Pillsbury Biscuits, they came out perfect. Flaky, hot, and ready to serve. Put the Biscuits on a paper towel lined plate and covered them with a towel until ready to use.

 

Finally as the Biscuits were baking I also prepared the Johnsonville Turkey Breakfast Sausage Links. Another delicious and easily prepared item. I buy these all the time, my favorite. I took a small skillet and sprayed it with the Pam Cooking Spray. Heated it on medium heat. Cooked them for 9 minutes, turning them several times. I love these Sausage Links! I prepared the whole package, Mom is having the Breakfast Dinner with me.

 

To serve everything, I got a bowl and added 2 Biscuits, topped them with the Gravy, and added a couple of the Sausage Links. Then chowed down! Everything is so good. Breakfast for Dinner is fantastic! For Dessert/Snack later a bowl of Skinny Pop – Pop Corn with a Diet Peach Snapple to drink.

To start this morning off I had a cup of Bigelow Decaf Green Tea. Dark and gloomy day out there today. 47 degrees, cloudy and rain all day! After my Tea I headed to Meijer before the heavier rains came in around 10:00 this morning. I got to Meijer about 7:10 this morning and by the time I left it was crowded. Mom needed some things for Thanksgiving so I got everything she wanted and a few items for me. A couple of people that work at Meijer told me It’s a good thing I came in now because they are having trouble getting items in. They had no Paper Towel, Toilet Paper, or cleaning products. Here we go again! So Breakfast sure sounded good this rainy day, so Breakfast it is! For Dinner tonight, Breakfast! I’m having Biscuits and Gravy w/ Turkey Sausage Links. I love Biscuits and Gravy!

I love these Breakfast Links that Johnsonville has come out with! To prepare them I coated a skillet with Pam Non Stick Cooking Spray and heat the skillet to medium-low. Added the Sausage and cooked for 11 minutes, turning often, until the Sausage was browned. They cook up perfect and are delicious.

 

To serve everything, I got a bowl and added 2 Biscuits, topped them with the Gravy, and added a couple of the Sausage Links. Then chowed down! Everything is so good. Breakfast for Dinner is fantastic! For Dessert/Snack later a 100 Calorie Mini Bag of Snyder’s Mini Pretzels with a Sprite Zero to drink.

Turkey Sausage, Pepper and Onion Hoagies
A hoagie is just a hoagie…except when it’s made with JENNIE-O® sweet Italian turkey sausage, drizzled with marinara and topped with sautéed peppers and onions! Then it’s a Turkey Sausage, Pepper & Onion Hoagie— totally different!
Total Time – 35 Minutes
Serving Size – 5 Servings

Ingredients
1 green bell pepper
1 yellow or red bell pepper
2 tablespoons olive oil, divided
4 slices red or yellow onion, separated into rings
1 (19.5-ounce) package JENNIE-O® Lean Sweet Italian Turkey Sausage
5 hoagie buns split and toasted
¾ cup prepared pizza or spaghetti sauce

Directions
1) Prepare grill. Cut bell peppers lengthwise into ¼-inch strips. Heat 1 tablespoon oil in skillet over medium heat. Add bell pepper strips and onion rings; cook 15 minutes or until vegetables are tender; stirring frequently.

2) Meanwhile, brush remaining oil over sausages.

3) Spray skillet with nonstick cooking spray. Preheat skillet over medium-high heat. Place dinner sausage in hot skillet. Cook uncovered, turning occasionally, 17-19 minutes. Always cook to well-done, 165°F. as measured by a meat thermometer.

4) Serve sausages in hoagies, topped with heated sauce and vegetables.

Back home I did some yard work. For Dinner tonight, Breakfast! I’m having Biscuits and Gravy w/ Turkey Sausage Links. I love Biscuits and Gravy!

Today’s Menu: Biscuits and Gravy w/ Turkey Sausage Links

 

 

I just had a cup of Bigelow Decaf Green Tea for Breakfast. Another cold morning to start, 35 degrees. For the day it was a bit warmer, 64 degrees and mostly sunny. After Breakfast I went to Kroger and bought a couple of pots of Mums Flowers for the deck outside. Got the cart out and raked some leaves and dug up an old bush in the back flower bed. Had everything done and took the cart for a ride around the neighborhood. For Dinner tonight, Breakfast! I’m having Biscuits and Gravy w/ Turkey Sausage Links. I love Biscuits and Gravy!

 

 

To make the Gravy I’m using a packet of my favorite Gravy, Pioneer Peppered Gravy Mix. So easy to prepare and absolutely delicious! To prepare it I get a small sauce pan and give it a light spray of Pam non Stick Cooking Spray w/ Olive Oil. I add a 1 1/2 cups of Cold Water to the pan and heat it on high to rolling boil. As that is heating up I preheated the oven for the Pillsbury Biscuits and I mixed the Gravy. In a measuring cup I added a 1/2 cup of Cold Water and then added the Gravy Mix to the Water and stirred until it smooth. When the Water was boiling I added the Gravy Mix. Turned down the heat a notch or two and started stirring the Mix and Water. Continued stirring until it started to thicken. Removed it from the heat and continued to stir it for about 30 seconds. I put the lid on the sauce pan and set it aside until I was ready to use it.

 

Time to bake the Pillsbury Flaky Layers Buttermilk Biscuits! Took a small baking pan and sprayed a light coat of the Pam Cooking Spray on it. Added the Biscuits and popped the pan in the oven. I’m baking them 400ᵒ F for 10 minutes. And as all Pillsbury Biscuits, they came out perfect. Flaky, hot, and ready to serve. Put the Biscuits on a paper towel lined plate and covered them with a towel until ready to use.

 

 

 

 

So as the Biscuits were baking I fried my Johnsonville Fresh Turkey Original Breakfast Sausage. I love these Breakfast Links that Johnsonville has come out with! To prepare them I coated a skillet with Pam Non Stick Cooking Spray and heat the skillet to medium-low. Added the Sausage and cooked for 11 minutes, turning often, until the Sausage was browned. I love these Sausages! They cook up perfect and are delicious.

 

 

 

 

To serve everything, I got a bowl and added 2 Biscuits, topped them with the Gravy, and added a couple of the Sausage Links. Then chowed down! Everything is so good. Breakfast for Dinner is fantastic! For Dessert/Snack later a bowl of Skinny Pop – Pop Corn with a Diet Peach Snapple to drink.

PREPARATION INSTRUCTIONS
1 – Bring 1 1/2 cups water to a full rolling boil.
2 – Blend Peppered Gravy Mix with 1/2 cup cool water. Mix or whisk until lump free. Set Gravy Mix blend aside.
3 – Pour the Gravy Mix blend into the boiling water. Stir vigorously with a fork or whisk until thickened. Remove from heat.

This week’s Diabetic Dish of the Week is Apple and Turkey Sausage Stuffed Acorn Squash. A big thank you to Carol H. for passing this recipe along to me to share! She substituted Pork sausage with Ground Jennie – O Turkey Sausage. Enjoy and Eat Healthy!

Apple and Turkey Sausage Stuffed Acorn Squash

Ingredients
2 Acorn Squash, halved and seeded
2 large Gala Apples, cubed
1 cup Turkey Sausage (Jennie – O Turkey Sausage would work great)
1/2 Onion, diced
1/2 cup Raisins
1/2 teaspoon Litehouse Poultry Seasoning
1/8 teaspoon Ground Ginger
1/2 teaspoon Ground Roasted Cumin
1/8 teaspoon Ground Cinnamon
1/8 teaspoon Ground Cloves
1/8 teaspoon Celery Seed
Sea Salt and Ground Black Pepper to taste

Directions
1 – Preheat oven to 375 degrees F. Place acorn squash cut side down on a baking sheet.
2 – Bake in the preheated oven until soft and browned, about 30 minutes.
3 – Mix apples, turkey sausage, onion, raisins, poultry seasoning, ginger, cumin, cinnamon, cloves, celery seed, salt, and pepper together in a bowl. Spoon sausage mixture into the hollow of the acorn squash; place on the baking sheet.
4 – Bake in the preheated oven until sausage is cooked through and apples are soft, about 35 minutes.
