Today’s Menu: Smoked Turkey Sausage and Shrimp Gumbo and Baked Garlic Loaf Bread

 

 

 

Just a cup of Bigelow Decaf Green Tea for Breakfast this morning. Not a nice day out there today! 90 degrees and extremely humid. So not a thing going on today outside. I took the trash out a couple of times, moved the garbage cans down to the street (Garbage Day tomorrow), and watered my Pepper Plants. Besides that I stayed in all day. For Dinner tonight the Delicious Leftovers from last night, Smoked Turkey Sausage and Crawfish Gumbo and Baked Garlic Loaf Bread. Just reheated the Gumbo on low and served the Bread. I never let Leftover Gumbo go to waste! I’ve left last night’s post below for description and recipe. Enjoy and Stay Safe Everyone!

I love Gumbo and Cajun Cuisine, looking forward to this meal tonight! So for Dinner tonight I’m preparing a Smoked Turkey Sausage and Shrimp Gumbo. Using the Zatrain’s Gumbo Mix, Butterball Hardwood Smoked Turkey Sausage, and a bag of Crawfish Tails. Add all together and I’ve one Delicious Meal coming! I had purchased a couple of 1lb. packages of frozen Cooked Crawfish Tails from Jungle Jim’s International Market in Fairfield. I had them in the freezer and I took 1 of the packages and sat it in the fridge to thaw overnight. I love Crawfish Tails, just don’t use them often.

 

To prepare it I got a large saucepan and sprayed it with Pam Non Stick Cooking Spray. Then added 6 cups of Water, bite sized sliced 1 1/2 Sausages of the Butterball Smoked Turkey Sausage, and the Gumbo Mix. Mixed until well blended together. I brought it to a boil; covered and simmered for 25 minutes.

 

Next as the Gumbo was cooking I got the Crawfish Tails out of the fridge washed then and let then drain in a colander. Then with 5 minutes of cooking time left I added the Crawfish to the Gumbo, stirring again until well mixed. Continued for 15 minutes. Removed the pot from the heat and let it stand for 5 minutes before serving.

 

 

This made one excellent Gumbo Dish! The Mix itself was flavored perfect, spicy but not overpowering. Then with the added Sausage and Crawfish Tail, it just capped everything off! I added a few shakes of Frank’s Hot Sauce to the Dish also. Lots of delicious leftovers! Just a word on the Crawfish, it was delicious! I’ll have to use it more often, much more often! The added Crawfish Tails adds just a hint of sweetness to the dish. Also, and don’t get me wrong, I love Shrimp but the Crawfish maybe be a better fit for the Gumbo than Shrimp. Whether it’s made with Shrimp or Crawfish, It is flat out Delicious! Leftovers are coming soon!


Then I also baked a loaf of La Baguette Roasted Garlic Oval Bread. Perfect Bread for Gumbo. For Dessert later a Jello Sugar Free Dark Chocolate Pudding.

Crawfish
Crawfish are usually less tough and more subtle compared to shrimp, and the taste can more accurately be described as a combination of crab and shrimp. Crawfish has a sweet taste with a little bit of salt and mineral flavor.
Crawfish also contain a good amount of B vitamins, as well as iron and selenium — important minerals that can be hard to get through your diet. The only drawback to crawfish is that they do contain some dietary cholesterol. But ultimately, crawfish are an overall healthy source of protein.

For Breakfast this morning I Scrambled a Couple of Eggs, toasted a Healthy Life Whole Grain English Muffin, and had a cup of Bigelow Decaf Green Tea. 81 degrees and rain on and off all day! Got up had Breakfast, did the dishes, worked out, got a shower, and BAM, I turned into a slug! I didn’t do a thing all day and it felt pretty good! Anyway for Dinner tonight I prepared Smoked Turkey Sausage and Crawfish Gumbo and Baked Garlic Loaf Bread.

 

I love Gumbo and Cajun Cuisine, looking forward to this meal tonight! So for Dinner tonight I’m preparing a Smoked Turkey Sausage and Shrimp Gumbo. Using the Zatrain’s Gumbo Mix, Butterball Hardwood Smoked Turkey Sausage, and a bag of Crawfish Tails. Today’s Menu: Leftover Smoked Turkey Sausage and Shrimp Gumbo and Baked Garlic Loaf Bread

 

 

For Breakfast on this Saturday Morning I toasted a Thomas Light English Muffin that I topped with Smucker’s Sugar Free Blackberry Jam. I also had a cup of Bigelow Decaf Green Tea. 72 degrees and mostly sunny, and no rain! After Breakfast I grabbed my mask and gloves and went to the local Kroger for a few items. They seem to be better stocked, that’s a good thing. Did some yard work, just enjoying the beautiful day out there! For Dinner tonight I heated up the Leftover Smoked Turkey Sausage and Shrimp Gumbo and Baked Garlic Loaf Bread. I couldn’t let these Leftovers go to waste! I’ve left the original post from yesterday for the recipe and Dinner description.

To prepare it I got a large saucepan and sprayed it with Pam Non Stick Cooking Spray. Then added 6 cups of Water, bite sized sliced 1 1/2 Sausages of the Butterball Smoked Turkey Sausage, and the Gumbo Mix. Mixed until well blended together. I brought it to a boil; covered and simmered for 25 minutes.

 

 

 

 

Next as the Gumbo was cooking I got the Shrimp out of the fridge washed then and let then drain in a colander. Then with 15 minutes of cooking time left I added the Shrimp to the Gumbo, stirring again until well mixed. Continued for 15 minutes. Removed the pot from the heat and let it stand for 5 minutes before serving.

 

 

 

 

This made one excellent Gumbo Dish! The Mix itself was flavored perfect, spicy but not over powering. Then with the added Sausage and Shrimp, it just capped everything off! I added a few shakes of Frank’s Hot Sauce to the Dish also. Lots of delicious leftovers!

To start the morning off I made a Breakfast Sandwich. I used Egg Beater’s Egg Whites, Johnsonville Turkey Sausage Patties, a slice of Boar’s Head Yellow Vermont Cheddar, and served it all on a toasted Thomas Light English Muffin. I also had my morning cup of Bigelow Decaf Green Tea. Very good Breakfast to start the day! Mostly sunny and 52 degrees out today, still windy. Did a load of laundry after Breakfast. Later I got my face cover on and got the cart out of the shed and took a quick ride around the neighborhood. I only saw 2 people out. I just hope this virus finally runs its course or they come up with a vaccine. For Dinner tonight I heated up the Leftover Smoked Turkey Sausage and Shrimp Gumbo and Baked Garlic Loaf Bread. No way was I going to let these leftovers go to waste! 2nd time around was just as good! I’ve left the original post for description and directions of dish. Enjoy and Stay Safe Everyone!

Today’s Menu: Leftover – Smoked Turkey Sausage and Shrimp Gumbo and Baked Garlic Loaf Bread

 

 

To start the morning off I had a cup of Bigelow Decaf Green Tea. Well the my Hoveround Mobility Chair that i use broke down and I had to get out my other one out. One of my best friends came over and we worked on it and have it back up and running! This poor old chair is beat up but I love it! Luckily I had the spare parts to repair it. I go on Ebay and buy spare parts for my Hoveround when I can find them. So for Dinner tonight I reheat the Leftover Smoked Turkey Sausage and Shrimp Gumbo and Baked Garlic Loaf Bread. I’ve left the original post from yesterday below for description and instructions. Enjoy!

I had bought a box of Zatarain’s Gumbo Mix with Rice while at Meijer last week. So for Dinner tonight I’m preparing a Smoked Turkey Sausage and Shrimp Gumbo. Using the Zatrain’s Gumbo Mix, Butterball Hardwood Smoked Turkey Sausage, and a bag of Meijer Frozen Shrimp (Large Size). Add all together and I’ve one Delicious Meal coming!

 

 

 

 

To prepare it I got a large saucepan and sprayed it with Pam Non Stick Cooking Spray. Then added 6 cups of Water, bite sized sliced 1 1/2 Sausages of the Butterball Smoked Turkey Sausage, and the Gumbo Mix. Mixed until well blended together. I brought it to a boil; covered and simmered for 25 minutes.

 

 

 

 

 

Next as the Gumbo was cooking I got the Shrimp out of the fridge washed then and let then drain in a colander. Then with 15 minutes of cooking time left I added the Shrimp to the Gumbo, stirring again until well mixed. Continued for 15 minutes. Removed the pot from the heat and let it stand for 5 minutes before serving.

 

 

 

 

This made one excellent Gumbo Dish! The Mix itself was flavored perfect, spicy but not over powering. Then with the added Sausage and Shrimp, it just capped everything off! I added a few shakes of Frank’s Hot Sauce to the Dish also. Lots of delicious leftovers for tomorrow!

 

 

 

 

Then I also baked a loaf of La Baguette Roasted Garlic Oval Bread. Perfect Bread with any Dish! I loved this dish tonight, plenty leftover for a couple of lunches! For Dessert/Snack later a 100 Calorie Mini Bag of Snyder’s of Hanover Pretzel Sticks with a Diet Peach Snapple to drink.

Today’s Menu: Smoked Turkey Sausage and Shrimp Gumbo and Baked Garlic Loaf Bread

 

 

To start the morning off I toasted a Thomas Light English Muffin that I topped with Smucker’s Sugar Free Blackberry Jam. I also had my morning cup of Bigelow Decaf Green Tea. 44 degrees and cloudy out. After Breakfast I went to Walmart, needed ink and paper for the printer. Back home I did laundry and then just watched some TV. For Dinner tonight i prepared a Smoked Turkey Sausage and Shrimp Gumbo and Baked Garlic Loaf Bread.

 

I had bought another box of Zatarain’s Gumbo Mix with Rice while at Kroger. So for Dinner tonight I’m preparing a Smoked Turkey Sausage and Shrimp Gumbo. Using the Zatrain’s Gumbo Mix, Butterball Hardwood Smoked Turkey Sausage, and a bag of Meijer Frozen Shrimp (Large Size). Add all together and I’ve one Delicious Meal coming!

Today’s Menu: Smoked Turkey Sausage and Shrimp Gumbo and Baked Garlic Loaf Bread

 

 

To start the morning off I prepared a Sunny Side Up Egg, 4 strips of al fresco Chicken Bacon, toasted 2 slices of Aunt Millie’s Light Whole Grain Bread, and had a cup of Bigelow Decaf Green Tea. 34 degrees, sunny, and windy out today. After Breakfast I went to Menard’s for a couple of things and stopped by McDonald’s and picked up Breakfast for Mom. Did a few things around the house and then caught up on some programs I had recorded. For Dinner tonight i prepared a Smoked Turkey Sausage and Shrimp Gumbo and Baked Garlic Loaf Bread.

For Breakfast this morning I toasted two slices of Healthy Life Whole Grain Bread, prepared a packet of Pioneer Peppered White Gravy, and fried 2 Eckrich Smoked Turkey sausage Links. Also had my morning cup of Bigelow Decaf Green Tea. Cold morning out there today, 27 degrees and a cold wind blowing. For the day it mostly cloudy and in the low 40’s. After I had my Breakfast I headed up to McDonald’s to pick Breakfast up for Mom and Dad. I didn’t do a whole lot today. Spent most of the afternoon with a heating pad on my back. From time to time my back gives me problems from being in sitting position so much in my Hoveround or the Wheelchair. Hopefully better tomorrow! Anyway for Dinner tonight it was all leftovers. I had some of the Holiday Turkey Gumbo in the freezer.

I had the Gumbo in the freezer so I sat the container in the fridge overnight to thaw. To reheat it; I used a small sauce pan , that I sprayed with Pam Cooking Spray. I turned it on medium heat, stirring often, and heated until everything was heated through. i didn’t want the heat to get too hot, that would break the Roux down. The Roux, Rice, Turkey, and Sausage Turkey all heated up perfect! Added a couple of shakes of Frank’s Red Hot Sauce. I also had a half loaf of Multigrain Bread that baked. I’ve left the original post below, it has the full recipe with it. For dessert tonight a Jello Sugar Free Dark Chocolate Pudding.

 

 

For Dinner tonight I prepared a recipe based from a Zatarain’s Recipe I received in an email the other day, Holidayturky-and-sauage-gumbo-001 Turkey Gumbo. I’ve left the original recipe at the end of the post. Mine differs in that I just used the Zatarain’s Gumbo Mix with Rice without adding additional ingredients. I’ve made the Gumbo Mix with Rice many times but usually I use Shrimp and Turkey Sausage. This time I’m substituting the Shrimp with leftover Jennie – O Turkey Breast. To prepare the dish I’ll need; 1 – Box of Zatarain’s Gumbo Mix with Rice, Butterball Hardwood Smoked Turkey Sausage (I cooked this up ahead of time and sliced it into smaller pieces), leftover Jennie – O Turkey Breast (pulled and sliced), and Frank’s Red Hot Sauce.

 

 
I used a box of Zatarain’s Gumbo Mix with Rice for the Gumbo base. It’s very easy to prepare, takes about 25-30 turky-and-sauage-gumbo-002minutes. I just boiled the stock that was in the packet, sliced Butterball Hardwood Smoked Turkey Sausage, and a few shakes of the Frank’s Red Hot Sauce for 15 minutes. Then I added the leftover Jennie – O Turkey Breast and simmered another 10 minutes. And the Gumbo is ready! It turned out fantastic! Nice flavor and plenty of Rice. The Butterball Turkey sausage and Jennie – O Turkey Breast worked great, made a nice hearty dinner. I just love leftovers!

 

 

 
Holiday Turkey Gumbo

After Thanksgiving or Christmas dinner, using leftover turkey to make gumbo is a holiday tradition across Louisiana. Zatarain’s Gumbo Mix with Rice makes it easy to introduce this beloved tradition to your home. Recipe courtesy of Jenny Fallo.

IngredientsZatarain's Gumbo Mix with Rice

Serves: 9
Serving Size: 1 cup
1 pound smoked sausage, sliced 1/4-inch thick
Substitutions
1 medium onion, chopped
1 medium bell pepper, chopped
2 stalks celery, chopped
3 cloves garlic, minced
6 cups turkey stock
Substitutions
1 package ZATARAIN’S® Gumbo Mix with Rice
1 bay leaf
1 cup chopped cooked turkey
1/4 cup chopped green onions

Directions

Prep time
35 mins
Cook time
Brown sausage in Dutch oven or large saucepan on medium-high heat. Add onion, bell pepper, celery and garlic; cook and stir 3 minutes or until vegetables begin to soften.
Stir in stock, Rice Mix and bay leaf. Bring to boil. Reduce heat to low; cover and simmer 15 minutes. Add turkey; cook 10 minutes longer or until rice is tender, stirring occasionally. Sprinkle with green onions before serving.
Cooking tip

For turkey stock, try this homemade recipe or use packaged stock: To make homemade turkey stock, add the leftover carcass from the turkey to large stockpot. Add 4 quarts of water, chopped onion, celery, carrots and garlic, bay leaf and fresh or dried parsley; bring to boil. Reduce heat and simmer 1 hour. Strain stock. Use stock to prepare Holiday Turkey Gumbo. Any leftover stock can be frozen for later use.
