Really hungry? Well here’s some Healthy Low-Calorie Foods You Can Eat A Lot Of! It’s all from the Diabetic Living On Line website. There’s a link at the bottom of the post to get them all.

Healthy Low-Calorie Foods You Can Eat A Lot OfEatingWell2

Grab these foods when you want to eat larger portions without doing serious diet damage.
There are some days where my stomach feels like a bottomless pit. Usually I try to distract myself by going for a walk, drinking water or chatting with a friend. But sometimes my hunger rages All. Day. Long—no matter what tricks I try (please tell me you can relate). When I know I’m going to be munching more than usual, I try to do the least amount of damage to my diet by choosing foods that are low in calories and satisfy my cravings. That means I reach for foods that take up a lot of space in my tummy for not a lot of calories. I’m not suggesting you throw portion control to the wind (see healthy portions here)—but here are some feel-full options that deliver satisfaction on fewer calories for days when you’re feeling hungrier than usual.
1. Popcorn
Popcorn totally satisfies a craving for a salty, crunchy snack. Yum. Foods that are filled with air, like popcorn, trick us into thinking we’re eating more, according to Barbara Rolls, Ph.D., author of The Ultimate Volumetrics Diet. I love our Lemon-Parm Popcorn, which is packed with flavor and delivers just 99 calories in 1½ cups. As a bonus, popcorn counts as a whole grain. Most of us don’t eat enough whole grains, which deliver more fiber than refined grains. Air-popped popcorn is the lowest calorie choice, and be sure to avoid popcorns that claim to be “movie-theater” style, as they tend to be high in calories and sodium…..
2. Soup
Broth-based soups are “souper”-filling, since water or broth adds volume without adding too many (or any!) calories. That means you get to eat a lot more of it—so go for the black bean soup instead of the refried beans if you want to dish out a larger serving. Plus, according to an Obesity Research study, women who ate low-cal soup twice daily for a year lost 50 percent more weight than women who ate the same number of calories from energy-dense snacks. Try this Veggiestrone soup (a riff on a popular Weight-Watchers recipe), which has only 169 calories in a 2-cup serving….

Today’s Menu: Mushroom and Sharp Cheddar Turkey Burger w/ Baked Fries

Turkey Burger Cheese Mushroom 006
Well the Holiday’s are over and time to get things back to normal. We didn’t have a lot of decorations so we’ll keep what we have up till this weekend. It’s been a cold but sunny day out today. Ran a couple of errands for Mom and that’s been about it for today. I warmed up the leftovers from the Christmas Feast for Mom and Dad for dinner. Myself, I really didn’t want leftovers so I prepared a Mushroom and Sharp Cheddar Turkey Burger w/ Baked Fries.

I used Jennie – O Turkey Burger Patties (Lean). Only 180 calories and 9 g fat and already made into patties. Pan fried them in a 1/2 Tbs of Canola Oil and seasoned it with Sea Salt and Ground Black Pepper. I served it on an Aunt Millie’s Reduced Calorie Whole Grain Bun and topped with some sauteed sliced Baby Bella Mushrooms and a slice of Sargento Reduced Fat Sharp Cheddar. I also baked some Ore Ida Simply Cracked Black Pepper and Sea Salt Country Style Fries. Served these with a side Daisy Reduced Fat Sour Cream. For dessert later a Jello Sugar Free Double Chocolate Pudding topped with Cool Whip Free.

Seasoned Fried Haddock w/ Macaroni and Cheese, ….

Today’s Menu: Seasoned Fried Haddock w/ Macaroni and Cheese, Yellow Wax and Green Beans, and Whole Grain Bread

House cleaning yesterday and Car and Shed cleaning today. Had the Car cleaned inside and out at a local hand car wash and then came home and cleaned and straightened up the outdoor shed. It’s that time of year with the temperatures at or below freezing that the shed turns into an extra freezer and refrigerator, just in time for all the leftovers from Holiday Dinners. For dinner tonight I prepared Seasoned Fried Haddock w/ Macaroni and Cheese, Yellow Wax and Green Beans, and Whole Grain Bread.

Haddock Mac Cheese 007

I had a Haddock Fillet in the freezer that I let thaw in the fridge overnight. To prepare it I rinsed the fillet in cold water and patted dry with a paper towel. Then sliced the fillet into four pieces. I then seasoned it with just a bit of Sea Salt and put the pieces in a Hefty Zip Plastic Bag where I then added Zatarain’s Lemon Pepper Breading Mix. Shook until all the pieces were well coated. I then pan fried them in Canola Oil, frying them about 3 minutes per side until golden brown. Haddock and Zatarain’s is a perfect combo, delicious every time!

I had been craving some more Macaroni and Cheese since the last time I had some. So for a side I heated up an individual cup of Bob Evan’s Macaroni and Cheese. Just microwave for 1 1/2 minutes and you have your Mac and Cheese, and quite good Mac and Cheese I might add. I also had bought a package of Kroger Private Selection Harvest Whole Yellow Wax and Green Beans, it was on sale and thought I would give it a try. It comes in a microwavable bag but I prepared by the other cooking option, boiling in water for 5-6 minutes. They were easy to prepare and not too bad for a frozen bean, I’ll use it again sometime. I also had a slice of Klosterman Wheat Bread. For dessert later tonight some Pringles Fat Free Potato Chips with Hidden Valley Smoked Bacon Ranch Dip.

Today’s Menu: Grilled Cheddar Turkey Burger and Baked Fries

Grilled Turkey Burger 010
A perfect Autumn day out today! It’s in the low 60’s and sunny. Went to the store early and then yard work. I got the 4 wheel mobility scooter out and helped Mom rake the leaves, do some final trimming, and put away some of the Summer lounge chairs. Love getting out like that and doing work, thankfully I have that scooter that lets me get out like that and help out! For dinner I was able to fire up the grill up one last time, it will be retired after this use. For dinner, Grilled Cheddar Turkey Burger and Baked Fries.

I used Jennie – O Turkey Burger Patties (Lean). Only 180 calories and 9 g fat and already made into patties. I seasoned it with Sea Salt and Ground Black Pepper and grilled it about 17 minutes, flipping three times. I served the burger on an Aunt Millie’s Reduced Calorie Whole Grain Bun and topped with a slice of Sargento Reduced Fat Sharp Cheddar. Anything tastes better grilled, now I just have to get a better grill to do it on. I also baked some Ore Ida Simply Cracked Black Pepper and Sea Salt Country Style Fries. Served these with a side Daisy Reduced Fat Sour Cream. For dessert later a Jello Sugar Free Chocolate Pudding.

Today’s Menu: Turkey and Black Bean Tacos

Turkey and Black Bean Tacos 005
Beautiful Autumn Day out today! Went to Meijer this morning to pick up some Jennie – O Turkey Products; Ground Breakfast Sausage,Extra Lean Ground Turkey Breast, Italian Sweet Sausages, and Breakfast Links. While there I watched the most extreme Couponer I have ever seen, she was amazing! She had a good size binder, notebook type, and on front of the binder a printout of each store aisle and the major products in that aisle. Then pockets in the binder that contained coupons for items in that aisle. I talked to her for a bit and said the biggest savings she had been just over $200! She said it took a lot of time but had a nice pay off! Quite impressive. On to Dinner. Tonight one of my favorites, Turkey and Black Bean Tacos.

I used Jennie – O Extra Lean Ground Turkey Breast, I had this leftover from the other night when I made Stuffed Peppers. I fried it in Canola Oil and seasoned it with Sea Salt, Ground Roasted Cumin, Cilantro Flakes, and 1 package of Old El Paso Low Sodium Taco Seasoning. As I added the Taco Seasoning Mix I also added 1 can of Bush’s Low Sodium Black Beans, I drained and rinsed them before I added them. Black Beans with Ground Turkey is a perfect pairing for Tacos. Mixed well until everything was coated and then simmered another 5 minutes until heated through.

For my other toppings I used 1 small can of Mario Sliced Black Olives, 1 small diced Tomato, Sargento 4 Cheese Mexican Shredded Reduced Fat Cheese, Dole Shredded Lettuce, Old El Paso Taco Sauce, and all in a Ortega Whole Grain Corn Taco Shells. Love these Tacos! For dessert later a Jello Sugarless Chocolate Pudding topped with Cool Whip Free.

Today’s Menu: “Kitchen is Closed”, Izzy’s Lean Corned Beef Sandwich w/ Ruffle’s Light Chips

 izzys-light-cornbeef-sandwich-001

You would be hard pressed to find a more perfect Autumn day out than what today was! About 70 degrees and sunny with a light breeze through out the day! Was outside most of the day and didn’t really plan on anything for dinner and didn’t feel like cooking tonight. So that meant one thing “The Kitchen is Closed!” So it was Izzy’s tonight, Izzy’s Lean Corned Beef Sandwich w/ Ruffle’s Light Chips and an Ice Cold Diet Dr. Pepper.

Subway and Jimmy John’s are good but their not a close second to Izzy’s. I would put Izzy’s Corned Beef up against any other. Plus with their “Lean’ version of the Corned Beef it makes it healthier also. The sandwich contains 170 calories and 16 carbs per serving (1/2 Sandwich) and 340 calories and 32 carbs for a Full Sandwich. I had the Full, as usual, along with a serving of Ruffle’s Light Potato Chips and their 80 calories and 17 carbs per serving. Then to go along with it all I had an ice-cold Diet Dr. Pepper, 0 calories and 0 carbs. For dessert later a Jello Sugar Free Chocolate Pudding topped with Cool Whip Free.

Today’s Menu: Cheddar Bacon Turkey Burger w/ Baked Fries

Jenn O Turkey Burger Fries 006

Well they were right when they said it would be cooler! Rolled out to get the Morning Paper and the old unofficial Outdoor thermometer said 38 degrees and with the cool breeze that was blowing it felt a bit cooler than that. But I love this weather! It was a beautiful Autumn Day out, sunny and cool. For dinner tonight I prepared a Cheddar Bacon Turkey Burger w/ Baked Fries.

While at Mejier last week I had picked up some Jennie – O Turkey Burger Patties (Lean). I had one for dinner last week and it was so good I decided to have it again for dinner tonight. Easy to prepare and only 180 calories and 9 g fat and already made into patties. Pan fried it in Canola Oil about 17 minutes, flipping three times. While the pattie was frying, in another skillet I fried up some Jennie -O Turkey Bacon, another low calorie and lean Jennie – O Turkey Product. The bacon is only 30 calories, 0 carbs and .05 g fat. I served the burger on an Aunt Millie’s Reduced Calorie Whole Grain Bun and topped with a slice of Sargento Reduced Fat Sharp Cheddar and a slice of Turkey Bacon. Love these Burgers!

For a side with my burger I baked some Ore Ida Simply Cracked Black Pepper and Sea Salt Country Style Fries. Served these with a side Daisy Reduced Fat Sour Cream. For dessert later a Healthy Choice Chocolate Swirl Frozen Yogurt.

Hard rains out on and off all day here. Went to Meijer in between the down pours and picked up a few items for dinner tonight and ran a few errands. For dinner tonight I prepared a Cheddar Bacon Turkey Burger w/ Baked Fries.

Meijer carries the best selection of Jennie – O Turkey Products, at around here. While there earlier today I purchased some Jennie – O Turkey Burger Patties (Lean), which was for dinner. Only 180 calories and 9 g fat and already made into patties. Pan fried them in Canola Oil about 17 minutes, flipping three times. Today’s Menu: Black Bean and Turkey Flatbread Wraps

Pita Bread Tacos 006

It’s been one rough 24 hour period for me as the Phantom Pains kicked in last night around 8:00 and have continued through out today. I had a bout with these earlier in the week, so it’s unusual for them to start again so close together. Just hoping they ease up before I go to bed, if not it makes for one long and uneasy night! On to dinner, I had Tacos the other night with a lot of the ingredients leftover. So tonight I gathered up all the leftovers and prepared Black Bean and Turkey Flatbread Wraps.

I used the remainder Jennie – O Extra Lean Ground Turkey Breast, I had this leftover from the other night. I fried it in Canola Oil and seasoned it with Sea Salt, Ground Roasted Cumin, Cilantro Flakes, and 1 package of Old El Paso Low Sodium Taco Seasoning. As I added the Taco Seasoning Mix I also added a 1/2 can of the Bush’s Low Sodium Black Beans that were leftover, I drained and rinsed them before I added them. As usual Black Beans with Ground Turkey make the perfect pairing. Mixed well until everything was coated and then simmered another 5 minutes until heated through.

For my other toppings I used 1 small can of Mario Sliced Black Olives, Sargento 4 Cheese Mexican Shredded Reduced Fat Cheese, Dole Shredded Lettuce, Old El Paso Taco Sauce, and a teaspoon of Daisy Reduced Fat Sour Cream to top everything off. Served everything on a Joseph’s Flax, Oat Bran, and Whole Wheat Pita Bread. This my favorite Pita Bread, this stuff is great! It stays fresh, you can freeze it, and it’s only 50 calories and 4 net carbs for one kind and only 60 calories and 4 net carbs for a bit bigger size. After adding all my toppings I just folded them half, like a soft taco. Really enjoyed these! For dessert later a Healthy Choice Chocolate Swirl Frozen Yogurt.

Today’s Menu: Black Bean and Turkey Tacos

Black Bean and Turkey Tacos 006

Rainy day around here today. We needed some rain though it was getting a little dry around here. Not much going on, just bummed around doing odds and ends till football started up in the afternoon. For dinner I prepared Black Bean and Turkey Tacos.

I love these Tacos! The crunch of the shells and all the different flavors and spices make a perfect Taco. For dessert later a Jello Sugarless Double Chocolate Pudding.
