About your Slow Cooker………………….

What’s the difference between a crockpot and a slow cooker?
Crock-Pot is the name of a brand that first came on the market in the 1970s. It has a stoneware pot that is surrounded by a heating element, whereas a slow cooker is typically a metal pot that sits on top of a heated surface.

Can I leave my slow cooker on low overnight?
Slow cookers are designed to be left to cook for long periods of time, so the truth is that it’s entirely safe to leave your slow cooker on overnight, if you’re out of the house or if you’re at work all day, as long as you follow all the directions and the manufacturer’s instructions.

Let it sit……………….

Many soups are better on the second day because the flavors have had more time to develop. Also, meat dishes like chili, or a brisket with all that sinewy tissue, will be even better the day after it’s been made. Let it sit in the fridge until the next day, and enjoy!

Brown that meat……………………….

When adding meat to a slow cooker the meat should usually be browned before it is added. Like most other cooking methods, starting with cold meat is a slow cooker no-no.

Keep your lid on…………….

When using your Crock Pot resist the urge to remove the lid and peek at your meal. Opening the slow cooker lets heat and moisture escape, and it slows the cooking process. Once you put the lid on, leave it there until your dish reaches the low end of the recipe’s cooking range. In other words, if the instructions recommend cooking the recipe for six to eight hours, don’t be tempted to remove the lid until you reach hour six. When you reach that point, feel free to lift the led, test temperatures and tenderness. Put the lid back on if it needs more time, and only remove the lid every 30 to 45 to check doneness again. Constant lifting and stirring may slow your cook time and interfere with how ingredients cook.

Save money using your Slow Cooker………

When using a Slow Cooker – Use cheaper cuts of meat. Inexpensive cuts of meat are often high in fat or connective tissue, both of which break down during long, moist heat cooking methods and will help keep the meat juicy and tender. Lean cuts of meat are often more expensive and tend to dry out in the slow cooker.

Vegetables in the Slow Cooker………

Place hard vegetables, like potatoes, carrots, and other root vegetables at the bottom of the slow cooker where they will have more moisture and cook swiftly. Also don’t over crowd your Slow Cooker.
