Today’s Menu: “Not So Sloppy” Turkey Joes w/ Baked Crinkle Fries

For Breakfast I made my Skillet Potatoes and Diced Ham for Breakfast. I used 1 package of Simply Potatoes Steakhouse Seasoned Diced Potatoes and a package of Meijer Diced Ham to prepare it. Just cook the Potatoes according to the package instructions and with about 5 minutes of cooking time left add the Diced Ham. I topped it with Sargento Off the Block Sharp Cheddar Cheese. Also had my morning cup of Bigelow Decaf Green Tea. 59 degrees and partly cloudy out today. I had all the yard work done for now so I got the cart out and helped a couple of my elderly neighbors with their yards. Raked, sprayed for weeds and helped with their flower beds. For dinner tonight it was a Comfort Food Sandwich! I prepared some “Not So Sloppy” Turkey Joes w/ Baked Crinkle Fries.

I used my favorite Sloppy Joe Mix, the Hormel Not-So-Sloppy-Joe Sloppy Joe Sauce. I love this Sauce and it’s ingredients! It’s a nice thick Sauce that’s seasoned just right. Which is why they call it Not So Sloppy, it’s thicker than other Sauces and doesn’t drip as much. The Sauce is seasoned with Spices, Onions, Green Peppers among other ingredients (70 calories and 15 carbs per serving). I’ll also be using Jennie – O Extra Lean Ground Turkey Breast (120 calories per serving) and Healthy Life Wheat Hamburger Buns.

So to prepare it; I started by frying the Ground Turkey. I used a large skillet; sprayed it with Pam Cooking Spray and added a tablespoon of Extra Virgin Olive Oil. Heated it on medium heat. Added the Ground Turkey and seasoned it with Sea Salt, Ground Roasted Cumin, Cilantro Flakes. Stirred and cooked until no longer pink, added the jar of Not So Sloppy Joe sauce. Stirred until heated through. Served on Aunt Millie’s Reduced Calorie Hamburger Bun. Love these! The Sauce combined with the Jennie – O Turkey is a perfect match.

For a side I baked some Ore Ida Crinkle Fries, served with a side of Hunt’s Ketchup. For Dessert later a Jello Sugar Free Dark Cherry Jello.

Hormel Not-So-Sloppy-Joe Sloppy Joe Sauce

Richer and Thicker and Far From Ordinary
Not-So-Sloppy-Joe® sloppy joe sauce is as distinctive as its name. Not-So-Sloppy-Joe® sloppy joe sauce has a hint of barbecue flavor and is richer and thicker than other sloppy joe sauces.

Since its beginning in 1985, there’s been one very graphic way to show the thick and rich texture of Not-So-Sloppy-Joe® sloppy joe sauce: the “drip test.” When you hold up a sloppy joe made with Not-So-Sloppy-Joe® sloppy joe sauce, there are no drips. It’s that rich and thick.

Philly Cheese Steak Sloppy Joes
Two of our favorite comfort-food sandwiches join forces in these family-friendly dinner sandwiches. We found that softer buns make this easier to eat, and it’s all the better when wrapped takeout-style in a sheet of foil…………

Strip Steaks with Smoky Cilantro Sauce and Roasted Vegetables
In this healthy dinner recipe, a cast-iron pan does double duty by searing the steaks and roasting the vegetables. Not a fan of cilantro? The sauce is great with parsley instead………….

Rosemary-and-Garlic-Basted Sirloin Steak
Master the perfectly seared sirloin steak with this easy method, while playing with fresh herbs to enhance the flavor. The key to success: letting the meat come to room temperature before adding to the pan to ensure it cooks evenly. Rosemary and garlic give it an irresistible herby finish. For the best results, let the steak rest before serving………………..

Healthy Weeknight Dinner Recipes
Find healthy, delicious weeknight dinner recipes, from the food and nutrition experts at EatingWell.

Grilled Fish Tacos
Instead of deep-frying the fish for these fish tacos, we coat the fish with a flavor-packed chile rub and grill it instead. Make sure the fillets are no more than 1/2 to 3/4 inch thick so they cook quickly. Sometimes flipping fish on the grill can be tricky since the fish can stick to the grill or fall apart. The solution is to invest in a grill basket that easily holds 4 to 6 fish fillets and secures the fish in the basket for easy flipping. If you don’t have a grilling basket, make sure the grill is hot and well oiled before adding the fish………………………………….

Sloppy Joe-Stuffed Sweet Potatoes
Take sloppy Joes to a new level with tender sweet potatoes standing in for the bun. Sweet potatoes pair perfectly with the tangy, flavorful filling of ground beef, black beans and spices. Chopped dill pickle sprinkled on top adds crunch to this quick weeknight dinner the whole family will love………………………………………

One-Pot Cheesy Tex-Mex Pasta
This comforting one-pot pasta dish has a Southwestern kick. Chili powder and pico de gallo flavor the dish, while melted Mexican cheese adds a creamy finish. Top it with your favorite fixings like scallions, cilantro and sour cream, and serve it alongside a crisp green salad for an easy weeknight meal the whole family will love……………………………..

Wild Idea Buffalo Recipe of the Week – SLOPPY JOE’S WITH SWEET CORN

This week’s Wild Idea Buffalo Recipe of the Week is – SLOPPY JOE’S WITH SWEET CORN. Kicked up Sloppy Joe’s made using Wild Idea Ground Buffalo along with Onion, Garlic, Spices, Worcestershire, Dijon Mustard, and Maple Syrup. The family is going to love Sloppy Joe’s Night! You can find this recipe or purchase the Wild Idea Ground Buffalo along with all the other Wild Idea Products at the Wild Idea Buffalo website. Enjoy and Eat Healthy in 2020! https://wildideabuffalo.com/

SLOPPY JOE’S WITH SWEET CORN
This ground BBQ concoction has been called many things, including; Steam Burger, Tavern Sandwich, Spoon Burgers, Barbeque Sandwich and of course Sloppy Joe’s. Whatever you call it, they are delicious!
This hearty sandwich was a childhood favorite for simple suppers and was a huge treat for tailgate events (and still is)! My following recipe is a modified New York Times version, that one of our customers recommended. I modified it based on my own taste, as well as what I had on hand. Garnish it with homemade pickles and flash sautéed fresh sweet corn, for grown-up goodness, that kids will love too. *For best flavor profile, make a day ahead. Leftovers were even better!

Ingredients:
2 – tablespoons olive oil
1 – large onion, diced
1 – 1 lb. packages Wild Idea Ground Buffalo
2 – cloves garlic, minced
1 – teaspoon salt
1 – teaspoon black pepper
1 – teaspoon chili powder
1 – teaspoon cumin
½ – teaspoon smoked paprika
¼ – teaspoon cloves
½ – cup water
2 – cups tomato sauce
½ – cup ketchup
2 – tablespoons Worcestershire
1 – tablespoon Dijon mustard
2 – tablespoons Maple Syrup
¼ – cup fresh squeezed lemon juice, or other citrus

Preparation:

1 – In a heavy skillet over medium heat, heat oil and add onions. Cook the onions, stirring occasionally, until tender and lightly caramelized. About 10 minutes.
2 – Increase your heat to medium high and crumble in the ground buffalo, and the garlic and dry spices. Cook the meat until browned, stirring occasionally, breaking up the larger pieces up with your spoon.
3 – Add the tomato sauce, ketchup, Worcestershire, mustard and syrup and stir to incorporate. Reduce your heat to low and simmer for 30 minutes, or until desired consistency is reached.
4 – Add the fresh squeezed lemon and season to taste.
5 – Serve on toasted buns and top with pickles and fresh sautéed sweet corn with green onions. So good!

44 degrees and partly sunny outside today. Took Mom’s car and then my car over to the car wash up the road, long line of cars getting washed today. Back home I grabbed the Windex, paper towel and the indoor car window squeegee and I cleaned the inside windows of both cars. That’s enough for today!

The Sauce is seasoned with Spices, Onions, Green Peppers among other ingredients (70 calories and 15 carbs per serving). I’ll also be using Jennie – O Extra Lean Ground Turkey Breast (120 calories per serving) and Aunt Millie’s Reduced Fat Hamburger Buns, which I actually found a package at Meijer last week.

For Dessert/Snack later a 100 Calorie Mini Bag of Snyder’s of Hanover Waffle Pretzels along with a Sprite Zero to drink.
