BOCKFEST RETURNS FOR 28TH YEAR

Join us on February 28 – March 1, 2020 as we celebrate 28 years of the funkiest festival in Cincinnati!
Friday February 28, 2020 – Steps off at 6PM

Starting at Arnold’s – Cincinnati’s oldest saloon – the Bockfest parade presented by Kroger and the On the Rhine Eatery is traditionally lead by a goat pulling a keg and the reigning Sausage Queen along with the official parade marshal. It travels up Sycamore Street to 12th Street to Main Street to Bockfest Hall and ends with the blessing of the bock beer. This officially marks the beginning of a weekend of festive celebration that might end in blaming a goat on your horizontal position. Goats, the German Renaissance, beer, irreverence and originality are all highly esteemed aspects of a parade entry. There are no fire trucks for the kids. In the past, entries have included faux-monks pulling a Trojan goat, futon queens, German beer bands, a four-poster bed pulled by slave labor, goats on Segways, a leather-clad whip wench with a huge whip, and patriotic chants of “drink more beer.” As usual, you can bring your favorite canine to walk with “The Bocking Dogs.”

The Bockfest Parade presented by Kroger and On the Rhine Eatery will be held on Friday February 28, 2020. The parade will start to form in front of Arnold’s Bar and Grill, located at 210 East 8th Street, at 5:00PM and steps off on at 6:00PM. The Bockfest Parade is Cincinnati’s funkiest and most entertaining parade. It can be watched from the street or from a number of participating venues along the route.

Celebrate the Coming of Spring, Over-the-Rhine’s brewing heritage, and bock beer at the largest Bockfest in the United States. Join us on February 28 – March 1, 2020 as we celebrate 28 years of the funkiest festival in Cincinnati!

There is something for everyone at the at one of the participating venues or at Bockfest Hall (located at the Christian Moerlein Brewery at 1621 Moore Street, Cincinnati 45202)!

Party Like a Bockstar on Friday night by watching the Parade presented by Kroger and On the Rhine Eatery and beer blessing, then enjoying great food, cold bock beer, and live music including headliner the Naked Karate Girls.

Saturday morning starts off with the Bockfest 5K, then you can tap into the Bock Beer Blowout featuring local bock beer tastings with over 18 bocks on draft, homebrew competitions, historic brewery walking tours, Bockfeast Pig Roast, and fun beer games pitting local breweries vying for the coveted Brewers Cup.

Saturday night kicks back into high gear with the Billygoat Ball with more cold bock beer, the Beard Baron and Sausage Queen competitions, and headliner The Rusty Griswolds!

Bring the kids to Bockfest Hall on Sunday for Bock, Brunch, and Bavarians. The family fun starts with the Little Links childrens’ pageant and features kid-friendly games and petting zoo – plus Goat Yoga, the Bockfeast Pig Roast Dinner and Bock Bloody Mary Bar. The .05K Fun “Run” raises funds for the Brewing Heritage Trail and Continental Sunday showcases our rich heritage with live German music and dancing, steins and breweriana, historic brewery walking tours, and a series of local history talks.

Make sure to visit all the participating venues throughout the neighborhood with special offers all weekend long. The best part is Bockfest is FREE!

About Bockfest
Bockfest is first and foremost, a community event. In addition to throwing a great, three day long party, our goal is to celebrate and support our local community. We work to grow Bockfest every year, to increase attendance, to grow the parade, to add events, and to raise more money to spread the word. However, as enthusiastic as we are about growing the festival and sharing it with an increasingly wider range of America, we are unwavering in our commitment to keep Bockfest unique, authentic and local. There is no charge to the public to attend Bockfest and we work to include all types of local businesses because our goal is to promote Over-the-Rhine, its rich heritage, and the people who live and work here to as broad of an audience as we can reach.

It’s the most wonderful time of the year, for snacks and appetizers! It’s just not the Christmas Holiday without my Mom’s Christmas Chex Mix! Absolutely love this! Such a great combination of ingredients – Chex Cereals, Pretzels, and the Seasonings. They say to let it cool, I love it when it first comes out of the oven and just letting cool for a couple of minutes. Enjoy, I know we do!

Christmas Chex Mix

Ingredients

3 cups corn chex
3 cups rice chex
2 cups whole wheat chex
2 cups cherrios
2 cups mixed nuts
2 cups small pretzel sticks (reduced sodium)
2 1/2 sticks (1 1/4 cups) salted butter, melted
4 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
2 1/2 teaspoons seasoned salt
3/4 teaspoon garlic powder
1/2 teaspoon onion powder

Instructions

Pre heat oven to 250 degrees F.
1 – In large bowl, mix the cereals, mixed nuts and, pretzels. Set aside.
2 – Melt the butter in a bowl (I normally do the full 2 1/2 sticks) and mix in the Worcestershire sauce, seasoned salt, garlic powder, onion powder and a good pinch of pepper. Pour the butter over the cereal mixture, tossing well for 3-5 minutes or until the cereal mixture is evenly coated.
3 – Bake 1 hour, stirring every 15 minutes. Spread on paper towels to cool, about 15 minutes (or just start eating!!). Store in airtight container.

Get Stinky: Arnold’s Bar & Grill to Host the Cincinnati Garlic Festival
The festival will take place over two days and will feature local garlic-themed foods

Arnold’s Bar & Grill isn’t afraid to get smelly with their food: Introducing the Cincinnati Garlic Festival 2019.

On Friday, May 31 and Saturday, June 1, Cincinnatians can consume all the garlic they want via an assortment of specially prepared local food and beer at the downtown bar:

Listermann, Fifty West and Rhinegeist will bring their very own garlic beers
Madisono’s Gelato & Sorbetto will have garlic gelato
Wunderbar! will have garlic pretzels
La Soupe will be providing garlic soup
Sixteen Bricks will have garlic breads
Avril-Bleh butchers will provide assorted garlic sausages and meats
and Arnold’s will have a slew of garlic cocktails, appetizers, entrées and desserts from chef Kayla Robison
In 1998, Jim Tarbell hosted the original Cincinnati Garlic Festival in the Grammer’s parking lot in Over-the-Rhine, with restaurants, printed T-shirts and a garlic bulb mascot.

Arnold’s got Tarbell’s blessing and reinvented the Queen City tradition, and design firm We Have Become Vikings created the logo and modernized the mascot. Limited edition Cincinnati Garlic Fest T-shirts and hand-numbered screen prints will be available to purchase at the event.

In addition to food, there will be live music from Root Cellar Xtract 8-11:30 p.m. Friday and The Cincinnati Dancing Pigs 8-11:30 p.m. Saturday,

5-11 p.m. May 31; all day June 1. Free admission. Arnold’s Bar & Grill, 210 E. Eighth St., Downtown. More info: https://www.facebook.com/arnoldsbar/

From light and funky, to sour and bright, to deep, dark, and roasty, there’s something for everyone to try and enjoy!

The Festival
About the Show
Since its inception in 2014, our Barrel Aged Beer Bash has wowed crowds, inspired craft beer enthusiasts, and celebrated the art of barrel aging! Aged in bourbon, tequila, or rum barrels, barrel-aged beers are often deeply flavorful, nuanced, and intense. From light and funky, to sour and bright, to deep, dark, and roasty, there’s something for everyone to try and enjoy!

Our Promise
This year, we’re celebrating the 6th iteration of this beloved festival with over 100 bold and inventive beers! Rare, hard-to-find, and maybe even exclusive to this epic event, these beers are truly special. Tickets include entry to this year’s Barrel Aged Beer Bash, a tasting guide, and a commemorative glass for you to keep!

Slow & Steady
It takes time to age these beers, so we recommend that you take time to drink and appreciate them, as well. These beers are heavy and often have higher-than-average alcohol content, so we encourage you to enjoy these heavier beverages slowly and to appreciate the depth and nuance in each pour.

Try then Buy
We’ve gathered these incredible beers together so that you can taste, sample, and discover new favorites! Though some of the beers at our show are actually unavailable to the public, many of these barrel-aged beers are available downstairs in our Beer Department on a continuous or seasonal basis! So, make sure to take notes and record your favorites so that you can find them in our store!
