Today’s Menu: Kitchen Closed – It’s Pizza Tonight from Domino’s

Early Morning and long day today. The phone rang about 5:00 this morning and it was the rehab center where Dad is at. They didn’t Dad would make it. The pneumonia along with his COPD, he was barely breathing. So we rushed over there and he seemed to get better. Dad panics if we are not around when something isn’t right. Later in the day they took more x-rays and the pneumonia had cleared up! Later in the day he was breathing good, thankfully! So it was a very long day and it ended good. Back at home I caught up on some sleep. Too tired to cook so the Kitchen is Closed! Tonight it’s Domino’s.

I had been wanting a Domino’s Pizza so it seemed like a perfect time for it! A few more calories and carbs than what I normally like to have for dinner but it had been a while since I had one and it sounded good for a Sunday Meal, and love the clean up afterwards! We ordered a Domino’s Hand Tossed Pizza Large with Cheese, Sauce, Pepperoni, Italian Sausage, Mushrooms, and Black Olives, Green Olives. As always the Pizza arrived on time, hot and delicious! I had a Diet Dr. Pepper to drink. For Dessert/Snack later a bowl of Skinny Pop – Pop Corn. The Kitchen will reopen tomorrow! Happy Labor Day Weekend Everyone!

Today’s Menu: It’s Pizza Tonight from Domino’s

For Breakfast this morning I fried a couple of Jennie – O Turkey Breakfast Sausage Links, Scrambled an Egg, toasted 2 slices of Aunt Millie’s Light Whole Grain Bread, and had a cup of Bigelow Decaf Green Tea. After I had Breakfast and did the dishes I went to McDonald’s to pick up Breakfast for Mom and Dad. It’s not quite as hot out, 82 degrees but still a tad muggy. After Lunch I got the cart out of the shed and I to dig up an old bush that was dead and then I had to dig out some soil running along side the driveway. Still having drainage problems when it rains. Things would be a lot easier if I wasn’t in a wheel chair but you have to work with what you got! For Dinner tonight It’s Pizza from Domino’s.

I had something planned out for my Dinner tonight but Mom and Dad had been wanting a Pizza for sometime now so Pizza it is, Domino’s Pizza. One of America’s Favorites – New York-Style Pizza

New York-style pizza from Brooklyn

New York-style pizza is a style of pizza characterized by large hand-tossed thin-crust pies, often sold in wide slices to go. It has a crust which is crisp along its edge yet soft and pliable enough beneath its toppings to be folded in half to eat. This style evolved in the U.S. from a type that originated in New York City in the early 1900s, and today refers to the style of pizza eaten in the states of New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut. This style of pizza is similar to the original Italian version. Regional variations exist throughout the Northeast and elsewhere in the U.S.

Slices of New York-style pizza to-go topped with pepperoni

The first pizzeria in the United States of America was founded by Gennaro Lombardi in New York City’s Little Italy in 1905. An immigrant pizzaiolo from Naples, he opened a grocery store in 1897; eight years later, it was licensed to sell pizza by New York State. An employee, Antonio Totonno Pero, began making pizza, which sold for five cents a pie. Many people, however, could not afford a whole pie and instead would offer what they could in return for a corresponding sized slice,[citation needed] which was wrapped in paper tied with string. In 1924, Totonno left Lombardi’s to open his own pizzeria on Coney Island, called Totonno’s.

The original pizzerias in New York used coal brick ovens and baked their pizza with the cheese on the bottom and sauce on top.[citation needed] By 2010, over 400 pizza restaurants existed in New York City, with hundreds more of varied cuisine also offering the dish.

New York-style pizza is traditionally hand-tossed, consisting in its basic form of a light layer of tomato sauce and dry,

grated, full-fat mozzarella cheese; additional toppings are placed atop the cheese. Pies are typically around 18 inches in diameter, and commonly cut into 8 slices. These large wide slices are often eaten as fast food or a “street snack” while folded in half from the crust, as their flexibility sometimes makes them unwieldy to eat flat. Folding the slice also allows it to be eaten with one hand.

New York-style pizza gets its distinguishing crust from the high-gluten bread flour with which it is made. Minerals present in New York City’s tap water supply are also credited with giving the dough in metro area pies their characteristic flavor. Some out-of-state pizza makers even transport the water cross-country for the sake of authenticity.

Typical condiments include dried oregano, dried basil, grated Parmesan cheese, garlic powder, and dried red chili pepper flakes.
New York-style pizza is most prevalent in New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut, but can be found throughout the Northeastern region and beyond. Outside this area, many pizzas described as “New York style,” including those of major pizza chains such as Pizza Hut, generally do not fall within the variations commonly accepted as genuine in its native area.

Today’s Menu: Domino’s Pizza

To start my day I toasted a Healthy Life Whole Grain English Muffin that I topped with Smucker’s Sugar Free Dominos Pizza 002Blackberry Jam. Also had a cup of Bigelow Decaf Green Tea. Our neighbor had to get our morning papers for me this morning. The driveway had ice on it and I’ve learned my Hoveround doesn’t do well on ice! It’s one cold morning out there, 3 degrees and a wind chill of -7! It only warmed up to a high of 13 degrees, but the wind chill kept it around zero or below. I drove Mom over to where she gets her hair done in Fairfield and back home for the day. They said we have 1 more day of the bitter cold before a little warmer weather moves in, in the 40’s. Just did a few things around the house and then settled in for an afternoon of Football and Basketball. For Dinner tonight, the Kitchen is Closed! Its Domino’s Pizza tonight!

I enrolled us in the Domino’s Pizza Rewards Program. Mom and Dad order from there quite often, often enough we Dominos Pizzahave enough points for a free 2 – Topping Medium Pizza! A few more calories and carbs than what I normally like to have for dinner but it had been quite a while since I had one and it sounded good, and love the clean up afterwards! We ordered a Domino’s Hand Tossed Medium Pizza with Cheese, Sauce, Pepperoni, Italian Sausage, Mushrooms, Black Olives, and Green Olives. We had to pay a bit extra for the extra items, but very little. As always the Pizza arrived on time, hot and delicious! For dessert later a Weight Watcher’s Cookies and Cream Ice Cream Bar. And for the Kitchen, It reopens tomorrow!

It was a cup of Bigelow Decaf Green Tea and a toasted Healthy Life Whole Grain English Muffin for Breakfast this morning. After Breakfast I had to move all items under the Kitchen and 2 bathroom sinks. Then cleared off the kitchen counters. The Pest Control came this afternoon and started our treatment of Carpenter Ants. Several neighbors also were being treated today. We’ve had a slight problem with them since Duke Energy plowed down the woods behind us. So after the sprayed I had to move everything back, fun day! Glad to get it done though. Got the leaf blower out and cleaned the deck and driveway of leaves and such. So I couldn’t put everything back in the kitchen cabinets for about 3 hours, till the spray dried. And by then I sure didn’t feel like cooking. So the kitchen is closed and its a pizza from Domino’s.

One of America’s Favorites – Pepperoni

Packaged pepperoni

Packaged pepperoni

Pepperoni, also known as pepperoni sausage, is an American variety of salami, usually made from cured pork and beef mixed together.

Pepperoni is characteristically soft, slightly smoky, and bright red in color. Thinly sliced pepperoni is a popular pizza topping in American-style pizzerias and is used as filling in the West Virginia pepperoni roll. It is also used to make some varieties of submarine sandwiches.

Pepperoni is a cured dry sausage similar to the spicy salamis of southern Italy, such as salsiccia Napoletana piccante, a spicy dry sausage from Naples, or the soppressata from Calabria. The main differences are that pepperoni has a finer grain (akin to salami of Milan, a spiceless regional variant of salami), is usually softer, and is produced with the use of an artificial casing (instead Italian salami are produced using natural gut for casing). Pepperoni is mass-produced to meet the demand for the sausage.

Pepperoni is usually made from a mixture of pork and beef. Turkey is also commonly used as a substitute, but the use of poultry in pepperoni must be appropriately labeled in the United States. In the Caribbean Islands and other parts of the world, donkey and horse meat are common ingredients. Sodium nitrite (or sometimes saltpeter), usually a part of modern curing agents, protects against botulism and other forms of microbiological decay. Sodium nitrite is white, but reacts with the heme in the myoglobin of the lean to give pepperoni its reddish colour. The use of paprika and cayenne also contribute to its reddish color.

Pepperoni sausages are commonly sold in two sizes: an inch or so in diameter for pizza and two to three inches in diameter for sandwiches. Pepperoni is sold whole, chopped, or in slices, and is commonly found in American deli counters.

Ingredients such as peppers, garlic, fennel, or mustard seeds can be included in the production of pepperoni to provide different flavors and levels of spiciness. Likewise, the type of meat used to produce pepperoni can vary. Pepperoni may be substituted by similar cured meats like Genoa salami, soppressata, or chorizo.

Pepperoni has a tendency to curl up from the edges in the heat of a pizza oven. Some pepperoni is produced in thicker slices, so that the edges curl intentionally.

According to Convenience Store Decisions, Americans annually consume 251.7 million pounds of pepperoni on 36% of all pizzas produced nationally.

Pepperoni can also be found accompanying different types of cheeses, such as Cheddar or Monterey jack, as a cheap snack food in Canadian and some American convenience stores or gas stations. The portions of pepperoni and cheese are typically at equal lengths for ease of consumption, although it is not unusual to find packages containing small, bite sized pieces of pepperoni and cheese in many super markets across either country. They may be served with a honey mustard sauce for dipping.

Today’s Menu: Domino’s Pizza

Dominos Pizza
It was clear and cold morning out, around 9 degrees. For Breakfast I had a Egg Beater’s Scrambled Egg Whites, Simply Potatoes Hash Browns, 1 slice of toasted Healthy Life Whole Grain Bread, and a cup of Bigelow Decaf Green Tea. Outside it was a beautiful Sunny Day out, but cold with a slight breeze. Mom and Dad went on to Church so it gave me a chance to do some house cleaning and I did a load of laundry for Mom. I had planned a dinner for today but as the day went on and I got lazy. I was a victim of the easy chair and remote. So I decided to shut that kitchen down! So tonight it’s Domino’s!

Mom and Dad had been wanting a Pizza for sometime now so I ordered a Pizza from Domino’s Pizza. A few more calories and carbs than what I normally like to have for dinner but it had been quite a while since I had one and it sounded good for a Sunday Meal, and love the clean up afterwards! We ordered a Domino’s Hand Tossed Pizza Large with Cheese, Sauce, Pepperoni, Italian Sausage, Mushrooms, Black Olives, and Green Olives. As always the Pizza arrived on time, hot and delicious! The Sunday Pizza – Cast Iron Skillet Pizza

I came across this recipe in an email update from local blogger, My Adventures in Dinner Time, and couldn’t wait to give it a try! Cast Iron Skillet Pizza, it uses my favorite piece of cookware (Cast Iron Skillet) and it’s making one of my favorite foods Pizza. It quickly became a family favorite!

Cast Iron Skillet Pizza 009
In her recipe she made her own dough for the Pizza Pie. I do not have a very good baking history using yeast, I’m down right terrible! So I used Pillsbury Classic Pizza Crust. For my toppings I’m using; Hormel Turkey Pepperoni, Jennie – O Turkey Ground Breakfast Sausage, Sliced Mushrooms, Sliced Black Olives, Sliced Green Olives, Sargento Reduced Fat Shredded Mozzarella Cheese, and Ragu Original Pizza Sauce. The original recipe and weblink is at the end of the post.

CAST IRON SKILLET PIZZA:

INGREDIENTS

Ready for the oven!

Ready for the oven!

2 1/2 cups bread flour
1/2 tsp dry active yeast
1 cup + 3 Tbsp warm water
2 tsp olive oil, plus more to coat pan
Pizza sauce
Cheese
Toppings
Fresh basil, minced (optional garnish)

DIRECTIONS

* Combine flour, yeast, salt, oil, and warm water in a large bowl. Using a wooden spoon, mix until no dry flour remains. Make sure the bowl is nice and large to accommodate for rising.
* Cover bowl tightly with plastic wrap and let sit on a counter for 8-24 hours. Dough will rise quite a bit.
* Once fully rested, sprinkle top of dough with flour and turn out onto a well floured surface.
* Divide dough into 2 portions, shape each into a ball/disk… tucking dough under itself to form a tight ball.
* If desired, place one of the balls in a Ziploc bag for freezing.
* Pour some oil (a couple of tablespoons) in the bottom of the cast iron pan, place ball of dough in pan, turning to coat in the oil.
* Using your hand, push the dough around to spread the oil in the pan.
* Cover tightly with plastic wrap and let rest for 2 hours.
* Preheat oven to 550 degrees (or as high as your oven goes)
* Once dough has rested, it should have settled and puffed to fill the pan. Use your fingers to push the dough into all edges of the pan and remove large air bubbles.
* Lift up edges of the dough to eliminate any air pockets on the bottom of the dough.
* Top the dough with your pizza sauce, cheese and any desired toppings or seasonings. Drizzle with olive oil.
* Place skillet in oven and bake for 12-15 minutes. The top should be bubbly and golden brown.
* Use a spatula to lift the edge of the pizza and check to see if the bottom is nice and golden brown and crisp. If you’d like it crispier, place on a stove top burner over medium heat for a couple of minutes.
* Sprinkle pizza with grated Parmesan cheese and/or fresh basil. Slice into pieces and serve hot.
