Skimming the fat……………
Spoon out excess fat from stocks, stews, and sauces by skimming a few ice cubes (wrapped in a paper towel or cheese cloth) along the surface of the liquid. The ice helps the fat solidify, making it easier to remove with a spoon (or even a piece of toast).

Hamilton Ice Fest: The winter season is approaching quickly and that can only mean one thing…the return of IceFest in Hamilton, Ohio! IceFest, whisks visitors away to a winter wonderland filled with ice sculptures, ice carving competitions, yummy hot chocolate and family-fun activities. The Hamilton-based organization, City of Sculpture, leads the way in the planning of the event. An estimated 200 blocks and 40 tons of ice are needed for the event; then locally and nationally-based carvers will chisel and create to bring the works of art to life. IceFest has featured a Technicolor Ice Walk, Human Dog Sled Races and of course, competition carving.

Use them in your iced coffee, and it will never taste watered down. This is also a great tip for iced tea.

Here’s one I had never heard of, thanks to Tina for passing this one along!
When making a soup, sauce, or casserole that ends up too fatty or greasy, drop in an ice-cube. The ice will attract the fat, which you can then scoop out.
