Wild Idea on Food Network – Sunday 9pm/8cWild Idea

There is big news from Wild Idea this week! This Sunday evening at 9pm/8c on the Food Network, Wild Idea Buffalo will be featured as a stop for The Great Food Truck Race. Tune in and watch as the contestants try to create the best dishes possible using our 100% grass-fed buffalo and then sell the most items from their food trucks.

Wild Idea’s Jill O’Brien, who creates original buffalo recipes of her own, was glad to host the show and food trucks. “I can’t give away any secrets but I can tell you we are bracing for an onslaught of new fans who care about where their food comes from and who are looking for a delicious, healthy, sustainable red meat alternative,” she says.

Today’s Menu: Buffalo Cheese Burger w/ Baked FriesBuffalo Cheese Burger 007

Late afternoon a friend of mine meet me over at a place here in West Chester, Union Square. They had the The Union Centre Food Truck Rally going on all day there. It was a fund-raiser for the Boys and Girls Clubs here in Butler County. Seemed to be a good turnout as the vendors we talked to said it had been steady all day. There was about 11 Food Trucks and a few vendors that were cooking from a tent. Didn’t stay long though, just too humid out. A passing shower made it worse. For dinner tonight a simple but one of my all-time dinner classics, Buffalo Cheese Burger w/ Baked Fries!

I used my favorite Buffalo Burger, Wild Idea Buffalo 1/4 Buffalo Burger. I seasoned it with McCormick Grinder Sea Salt and Black Peppercorn. I then pan fried it in Canola Oil about 3 1/2 minutes per side. Buffalo gets done rather quickly due to it’s so lean. I topped it with a slice of Sargento Ultra Thin Sharp Cheddar Cheese and served it on a Healthy Life Whole Grain Bun.

For a side with my Cheese Burger I baked some Ore Ida Simply Cracked Black Pepper and Sea Salt Country Style Fries. Tried these for the first time earlier and really like them. Served these with a side of Hunt’s Ketchup for dipping. For dessert later a Healthy Choice Chocolate Swirl Frozen Yogurt.

Union Centre food truck rally to benefit Boys and Girls Club

WEST CHESTER TWP. — The aromas of grilled cheese, Korean barbecue, fresh baked cupcakes and chili will attract hundreds here later this month when the township hosts its first food truck rally.
The Union Centre Food Truck Rally, planned for Aug. 30, will bring 15 food trucks to the township’s community square. Alcoholic beverage sales from the event, which is being organized by the Union Centre Boulevard Merchant’s Association, will benefit the launch of the Boys and Girls Club of West Chester/Liberty Twp.
The Community Foundation of West Chester/Liberty Twp. plans to launch a Boys and Girls Club thanks to a $750,000 grant from the Ohio Attorney General’s office. Community Foundation officials hope to raise enough money, eventually, to build a club complex.
Food trucks have become a popular type of eatery nationwide, said Shellie Leder, the secretary for the merchant’s association. She said the township has a strong business community to support the food truck rally event.

“We’re hoping a lot of businesses in the area bring their offices done for lunch and then come down after work (for the event),” Leder said. “West Chester, it’s a thriving city here. We do have food trucks in West Chester on a regular basis.”
Emily Frank, who operates a food truck called C’est Cheese that serves up gourmet grilled cheese in Cincinnati and greater Cincinnati neighborhoods, is one of the business owners that frequents West Chester Twp. to peddle her food. She will sell several different kinds of grilled cheese at the Union Centre Food Truck Rally.
“I’m primarily in the suburbs,” Frank said. “It’s a big misconception that food trucks are only in downtown (Cincinnati). Food trucks are not a fad, they’re here to stay.”
A variety of food will be served up at the food truck rally. Some of the trucks will serve serve desserts, such as cupcakes or shaved ice, while other will focus on main courses, including pizza, burgers and waffle sandwiches. Variety is part of the appeal of a food truck rally, Leder said.
“I have five in my family and we can’t agree on what to eat. (Food trucks) solve that problem,” she said.
The rally, which runs from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Aug. 30, will feature live music throughout the day. Alcoholic beverages will be available for sale and the proceeds from those sales will benefit Boys and Girls Club of West Chester and Liberty Twp.

HOW TO GO
WHAT: Union Centre Food Truck Rally benefiting The Boys and Girls Club of West Chester/Liberty
WHEN: 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Aug. 30
WHERE: The Square @ Union Centre, 9285 Centre Pointe Drive, West Chester Twp.

The Return of The Great Food Truck Race: New Season, Higher Stakes

Just when you thought The Great Food Truck Race couldn’t get any more intense — with host Tyler Florence’s notorious cross-countrychallenges and its on-the-go dynamics — the series unveils a brand-new element to celebrate its third season.

In the past the show featured teams that were well-established in the food truck community, each with a dedicated customer following and prominent food truck operators experienced in mobile food service. This season’s teams, however, are food truck rookies. Having never worked on or cooked for a food truck, the eight teams are in for a world of surprise as they come to realize just how difficult a business it can be. But what these teams lack in real-world experience they surely make up for in enthusiasm, passion and drive to make it to the finish line.

Their want to win goes deeper than a craving for cash. This season’s caravan of trucks is not competing for money alone; they’re battling to win their very own food truck and a huge cash prize of $50,000. With the truck and the earnings, the winning team will have everything it needs to start its own food truck business. And for the teams with competitors who are looking to break out of boring day jobs and pursue careers in the food industry, a win would be a dream come true.

So mark your calendars for Sunday, August 19 at 10pm/9c to catch the season premiere of The Great Food Truck Race.
