Thank you Cookin’ for passing this hint along……….

When adding cooked chicken to dishes that have a long cooking time, it is best to use dark meat because it will stay moist longer than white meat.

Thank you to Betty L. for sharing this hint……

Butter will go farther and have fewer calories per serving if you beat it well. This increases the volume by adding air.

Collard Greens……….

Not only do collard greens supply good doses of protein, fiber, calcium and iron, but the leafy green vegetables also provide more impressive amounts of other key vitamins and minerals. Cooked collard greens don’t need to be limp and dull; prepared correctly, collard greens can be tasty in addition to being nutritious.

Butter up that spud……

To bake the perfect potato, rub butter over potatoes before baking to prevent skin from cracking and to improve the taste.

It’s all gravy…..

To give gravy a nice color, brown the flour well before adding the liquid. This also helps prevent lumpy gravy.

When you have Lemons……

Lemons will stay fresh for up to three months if you store them in a bowl of water in the fridge. Just change the water every week.

Here’s one my Mom always uses…..

If you would like a richer color to your potato salad, try adding a small amount of mustard when you mixing it up.

Save a few calories…

If you’re making cookies, choose the soft drop, more cakey versions rather than rolled variety – they generally contain more air per serving and therefore, fewer calories.

All about the Apple…..

* When buying apples, choose those without any bruises or soft, mushy spots.

* Look for fruit with shiny skin—dull skin hints at a lack of crispness and flavor.

* Apples quickly lose their crispness at room temperature. To keep apples in the fridge, place them in a perforated plastic bag in the crisper.

* Do not store bruised or cut apples since that will make the other stored apples spoil.

* If you’re slicing apples and don’t want the exposed pieces to turn brown, dunk the slices in a bowl of three parts water to one part lemon juice.
