Hold the Salt…..

When making homemade soup – Depending on the ingredients you’re adding, you don’t always know how much salt is going in. Many stocks have high levels of sodium, as do canned beans, vegetables and tomato paste. For this reason, save most of your seasoning until the end. Taste and adjust with salt and pepper as needed. Enjoy a hot homemade bowl of soup to warm these Winter’s Days!

Baked Potato………..

Wrapping a potato in foil won’t actually make it bake faster. Rubbing it lightly with vegetable oil, however, will. Also pierce the skin of the potato with a fork to allow the steam to escape. Doing this will give it a fluffy texture.

When a mustard jar is almost empty, leave the last scrapings in the jar, and use it to make a salad dressing. Measure the other ingredients into the jar, and shake well. The remaining mustard will flavor the dressing.

Get the tongs out…….

Always use tongs or a long handled metal spatula to turn the food, never a fork. Why allow all the flavorful juices out?

For a tender pork loin….

When roasting a pork loin, cook it with the fat side down for the first 20 minutes, so that the fat begins to liquefy. Then turn the roast over for the balance of the cooking time, and the fat will baste the meat.
