End of Summer Hint……
Before you put your cooler away, wipe the inside down with a paper towel or rag that has been dampened with water and few drops of vanilla extract. The alcohol in the vanilla works as a disinfectant and your cooler will smell great!

Don’t let that Baking Soda go to waste….

Baking soda is an extremely effective cleaner. Use it with vinegar to deodorize drains and clean stove tops and sinks.

To whiten kitchen appliances that have begun to yellow, apply a mixture of 1/2 cup bleach, 1/4 cup baking soda and 4 cups warm water. Let set for 10 minutes before rinsing and drying.

When cooking on the griddle, you’ll get better results if you clean it between each batch of pancakes or whatever you happen to be making. Do this easily with coarse salt wrapped in a piece of cheesecloth. The salt will provide a light abrasive cleaning and won’t harm the surface if you’re gentle.

Cleaning up after a delicious scrambled egg breakfast? Use cold water. It cleans dried egg off pans and utensils better than hot water, which causes the protein to bind to surfaces and harden.

Reserve one cutting board for raw meats, poultry, and fish; use other cutting boards for prepping vegetables, cheeses, and cooked meats.

Now here’s one great idea and another great use aluminum foil. It’s a great way to get rid of unwanted used grease. Put aluminum foil in a bowl, pour the grease in. When it hardens, roll up the foil and throw it out!

A couple of laundry tips passed along to me from Aundry A.

Hint #1 – A tablespoonful of black pepper in the first suds in which you wash cottons, will keep the colors from running.

Hint #2 – A tablespoon of vinegar to a quart of rinse water is frequently very effective in reviving faded colors.

* Thank you to Nannie W. for passing this hint along to me!

Baking soda isn’t as effective a deodorizer for the fridge as the baking soda company’s would like you to believe. Activated charcoal is much better at absorbing fridge and freezer odors.  Baking soda is an extremely effective cleaner, though. Use it with vinegar to deodorize drains and clean stove tops and sinks.

Thank you to Doris and Matt for passing this one along to share!

Stop, Save that Pickle Juice! – Whenever you empty a jar of dill pickles, use the left-over juice to clean the copper bottoms of your pans. Just pour the juice in a large bowl, set the pan in the juice for about 15 minutes. Comes out looking like new.
