Keep baked treats soft and moist……….

Baked treats tend to get fairly dry and don’t taste so good after a while. A good way to combat this is to keep them in a plastic container with an apple slice, which will help them preserve moisture and stay yummy for much longer.

Reheat without drying them out………………………

When reheating pizza or baked goods, place a cup of water in the microwave alongside them to add moisture to the air (therefore keeping the food from drying out).

Baked goods…….

Remember never to freeze baked goods while they are still warm. Moisture condenses on the outside. The interior dries out, but the surface turns gummy when the item is thawed.

Hint #1 – Don’t forget to save your store – bought bread bags for the times you bake bread. They are perfectly sized for homemade breads.

Hint #2 – For your next bake sale, write out the recipe for your baked good on an index card and tape it to the serving plate or box. That way if buyers find your goody to their liking, they’ll know they can make it themselves in the future. They may also be more likely to buy your item if it comes with a free recipe!

Hint #1 – When baking cakes and cookies, the ingredients should always be at room temperature. For pastry, it’s just the opposite-the ingredients should be cold.
Hint #2 – Electric stand mixers are a boon for bakers, because the dough hook attachment reduces or eliminates the need to knead. To keep the dough from climbing up the hook, spray it with nonstick cooking spray or vegetable oil before turning the mixer on. This is also a great tip when you’re using a hand mixer.

If your baked goods are stuck to the pan, wrap the bottom of the pan in a cold, wet towel for a few minutes. Once the pan is cooler, your brownies or bar cookies may come out more easily.

If your making cookies, choose the soft drop, more cakey versions rather than the rolled variety – they generally contain more air per serving and therefore, fewer calories.
