ICEFEST – in Hamiltonicefest

The winter season is approaching quickly and that can only mean one thing…the return of IceFest in Hamilton, Ohio! IceFest, whisks visitors away to a winter wonderland filled with ice sculptures, ice carving competitions, yummy hot chocolate and family-fun activities. The Hamilton-based organization, City of Sculpture, leads the way in the planning of the event.

An estimated 200 blocks and 40 tons of ice are needed for the event; then locally and nationally-based carvers will chisel and create to bring the works of art to life.

The event will kick off with its signature “Fire & Ice” gala, which will be held at the Courtyard by Marriott Hamilton, the host hotel of IceFest.

Hamilton’s IceFest is presented by the City of Sculpture. View ice sculptures great and small under the lights on Friday evening. See ice carving competitions, demonstrations and more. IceFest creates an exciting atmosphere and provides a schedule of activities for everyone including spectacular ice sculptures created by Olympic, International and local carvers.
IceFest, which will be on January 18 & 19, 2013, is a free and fun family-oriented winter celebration that attracts visitors young and old while also highlighting the many sculptures located in Hamilton, Ohio, also known as City of Sculpture. Located on High Street, beginning at the Government Services Center and ending just across the High-Main Street Bridge. Hundreds of ice sculptures and 40 tons of ice will be on display.

DIRECTIONS: Off I-75 between Dayton and Cincinnati. Take I-75 to Exit 24, which is State Route 129. At the end of the highway, continue straight onto High Street approximately 10 blocks.

  1. Are you going, Mark? If you do, you MUST take pictures! Lol, I don’t even know how close to you that is…

    • We live right next door to Hamilton but I be able to go. Hamilton isn’t the most wheel chair friendly city, all though they have made improvements. I think a lot of the streets where the carving are going on are cobblestone, which is real rough in a wheel chair. I’ll check some sites for pictures tomorrow though.

      • Oh, cobblestone streets are nearly impossible for anybody on wheels, for sure! I love the picturesque way they look, but one year I went with my daughter and grandson to some festival with cobblestone streets and like to killed myself pushing that stroller over them! I’ve only been to Ohio a few times, and it was very picturesque there, at least in the part I was in, so I’m sure the Ice festival must be a real draw!
